The Universal Language of the Null Symbol

9 Feb

And the award for best illustrated depiction of suffocation hazard goes to Samsung, and their creepy baby with a bag over its head.

I can’t help thinking how confusing some of these illustrations would be were it not for the big red null symbol negating the action. For example, this baby, meant to illustrate so elegantly that “hey, don’t put that plastic bag on that baby’s head. That’s not funny.” might well without the symbol have just been wearing a very boxy hat. or a 50’s bob hairdo. Or a slice of toast. All of which would have been pretty cute. But because of the unmistakable circle with a line through it, I’m pretty sure that’s not it. Unless Samsung has moved away from its own liability concerns into appeals against poor baby fashion. The jury may still be out.
